Lens culinaris

.

Tolle regional variety from the Swabian Alb with creamy consistency and medium size.

This lentil variety was introduced to the market by the Swabian seed company Fritz Späth in the 1940s. The variety was then very common in the Swabian Alb, but fell into oblivion and was considered extinct. After a long search, the lentil was rediscovered in 2006 at the Vavilov Institute in St. Petersburg by Klaus Lang.

"Späths Alblinse I" is of medium size and has a slightly creamy consistency. This makes the variety ideally suited for traditional dishes such as lentils with spaetzle. Its color ranges from light green to ocher.
